Chicken wings baked until golden brown; then coated in a mixture of spicy hot honey and your favorite bbq sauce.
Chicken wings and game day snacking go hand in hand. And there are so many varieties to choose from.
Whether you like a classic buffalo wing, parmesan peppercorn or any flavor in between, these Hot Honey BBQ Chicken Wings will be a new favorite.
Wings are in general not the healthiest of foods; however, you can save on some calories by baking them instead of frying.
You still get a crispy skin with a hot, juicy center and these wings are mouth watering good!
The best part is you can make them as spicy as you'd like by purchasing a honey that is spicy to your liking. Also, the flavor can change a bit depending on what kind of bbq sauce you prefer.
Personally, I like honey bbq sauce; which made these wings tangy, sweet and hot all in one. The entire recipe takes about 1 ½ hours to make and yields 24 wingettes.
Serve them alone or with your favorite dressing or dipping sauce like ranch, bleu cheese or garlic aioli. ~Enjoy!
Suggested Equipment
Ingredients Needed
To make this recipe you're going to need the following ingredients:
Chicken Wingettes: Wingettes are the two portions left once a whole chicken wing has been cut in half. You discard the wing; then are left with what looks like a little leg and a flat part.
You can cut them down from fresh chicken wings yourself or can usually purchase them frozen already cut for you. If you're using frozen wingettes, please allow extra time for them to fully defrost before preparing this recipe.
BBQ Sauce: We love Sweet Baby Ray's Honey Bbq Sauce, but you can use homemade or any version you like. The flavor of these wings will be altered though if you decide to use a sauce that is smokey in flavor.
Hot Honey: Hot honey is honey that has had chilies added to it. You can get it mild or hot; whichever is your preference!
Cooking Spray
How do you make Hot Honey BBQ Chicken Wings?
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Pat your wings dry with a paper towel, lay them in a single layer on a baking sheet; then generously spray them with cooking spray.
Place the sheet pan in the oven and bake for 45 minutes until they start to get crispy; then remove the pan from the oven.
In a large mixing bowl, add the bbq sauce and hot honey; then whisk until blended. Add the par-cooked wings to the sauce; then toss to coat.
Place the wings back on the sheet pan in a single layer and bake for another 30 minutes until the wings are crispy and golden brown.
