Cherry Chocolate Chunk Granola Bars

My kids go on food spurts. One minute they love granola bars; then they grow tired of them for awhile. One of their favorite combinations is chocolate and cherries so I made these homemade Cherry Chocolate Granola Bars several years ago for them.

I first shared this recipe back in June 2012 and since then they came out with those cherry chocolate Kind bars. The flavor is a little different, but the flavor combination is still a hit.

How do you make Granola Bars?

To make Cherry Chocolate Granola Bars, you'll need old fashioned oats, butter, vanilla extract, dried cherries, chocolate pieces, and honey. For this recipe, I used chocolate chunks, but regular chips or mini chips would work well also.

Add the butter, vanilla, and honey to small saucepan and heat over low heat on top of the stove until butter has melted. In the meantime, combine the oats, cherries and chocolate in a bowl.

Pour the butter mixture over the oat mixture and mix well. Line an 8x8 baking pan with parchment paper and add the oats; spreading evenly in the pan. Bake at 350 degrees F for 15 minute; then allow to cool completely.

I found that if you put the pan in the freezer for about 30 minutes, you can cut the granola into squares a lot easier. Store in a sealed container in the refrigerator for up to one week.

The girls really liked these Cherry Chocolate Granola Bars and what's not to like? They're a little healthier than store bought varieties and make a delicious snack. ~Enjoy!

The directions mention agave syrup and honey but the ingredient list doesn’t list agave syrup. Is it an either or or both?
