Boneless chicken breast tenderloins dipped in a maple syrup egg wash; then coated with chopped pecans and Panko breadcrumbs.
How many times have you purchased those frozen chicken strips from your local grocery store? C'mon. I'm pretty sure that a majority of you have at least once. I like to keep a bag in my freezer for those nights when I don't have any energy left within me to make dinner.
At least I know I have a Plan B; well that and there's always soup and grilled cheese. The frozen chicken I generally buy is the breaded/uncooked breasts.
Even though it's breaded, at least I know it's real chicken under there and not processed and pre-formed. That's just gross in my opinion and trust me when I say that I know that sometimes that's all the kids will eat.
If you've been reading this blog since the beginning, you'll remember that I started this blog to get my then nine-year-old to eat something other than those Chicken Dino's. Seriously, that's all she would eat!
Anyway, breaded chicken strips are a household favorite all throughout the country. If they weren't they wouldn't keep coming up with new varieties, right?
But what if I told you that you could make your own breaded chicken using natural ingredients and they're super simple to make like these Pecan Breaded Baked Chicken Strips. I knew you wouldn't be able to resist these!
How do you make Pecan Breaded Baked Chicken Strips?
For this recipe, you'll need boneless, uncooked chicken tenderloins (or boneless chicken breasts cut into 2-ounce strips), maple syrup, egg whites, finely chopped pecans, Panko breadcrumbs and cooking spray.
Start by preheating your oven to 375 degrees F. Next, gather two bowls. In one bowl, whisk the egg whites and syrup; in the other bowl combine the pecans and breadcrumbs.
First, dip your chicken into the egg mixture; then into the breadcrumb mixture. Place the chicken on a baking sheet either sprayed with cooking spray or lined with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Repeat for all pieces of chicken; then spray the tops with the cooking spray. Bake for 30 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
These Pecan Breaded Baked Chicken Strips were so juicy and tender; not to mention bursting with flavor from the pecans and maple syrup.
I didn't even need a dipping sauce, but you know how kids are, they like to dunk everything. To make a sauce with similar flavors, combine 1 part Dijon mustard with 2 parts maple syrup. ~Enjoy!
