This Buffalo style hummus made with tabasco and crumbled bleu cheese is a quick, easy and deliciously spicy healthy snack.
My girls love hummus and snack on it all the time. Homemade hummus is always best, but every now and then when I'm short on time and want a healthy snack, I get the prepackaged kind usually found in the refrigerated section by the deli aisles.
Since I had some in the refrigerator, I used that; then added a few other ingredients to make Buffalo Hummus. It saved a TON of time and we had a tasty dip in minutes!
What is Hummus?
Hummus is a Middle Eastern dip made with chickpeas, tahini, lemon juice, and garlic. It's creamy in texture and has a garlicky, tangy taste and is usually served with pita bread or fresh vegetables. It's also a staple in the Mediterranean diet.
Is Hummus Healthy?
Hummus is a healthy snack which contains a lot of protein, fiber and healthy fats. It also contains nutrients like folate, magnesium, potassium, iron and vitamins A, E and C. As an added bonus, it's also gluten free!
Equipment Needed
Ingredients
For this recipe you'll need the following ingredients:
- Prepared Hummus
- Tabasco Sauce (or other hot sauce)
- Crumbled Bleu Cheese
- Pita Bread, Pita Chips or Fresh Chopped Vegetables for dipping
I chose to use a classic hummus, but if you'd like to make the hummus from scratch, this Roasted Chickpea & Leek Hummus would be a great base.
We like to eat ours with fresh pita bread that's been warmed slightly in the oven; then cut into wedges to make it easier for dipping.
How do you make Buffalo Hummus?
Start by adding the hummus to the food processor; then add the cheese and tabasco sauce. You can make this as mild or hot as you prefer. Attach the lid; then pulse until smooth.
Remove the dip from the processor and place in a serving dip bowl. Drizzle a little hot sauce on top as a garnish; then serve with pita or fresh cut vegetables. That's all there is to it and the flavor is delicious with a little bit of heat.
Buffalo Hummus dip would make a tasty addition to your New Year's Eve celebrations or as a game day snack. ~Enjoy!
