This remarkable dish combines tender pork with the richness of apple cider, creating an explosion of flavors that will leave you craving for more.

Whether you're a seasoned chef or a home cook looking to impress, this recipe is sure to elevate your cooking game to new heights.

Why the Crock Pot is Perfect for Pork

The crock pot is an essential tool when it comes to cooking pork to perfection. Its slow and gentle cooking method allows the meat to become tender and juicy, while also infusing it with the flavors of the ingredients.

The crock pot's low and consistent heat ensures that the pork absorbs all the savory goodness of the apple cider, resulting in a dish that is bursting with flavor.

The Key Ingredients for an Unforgettable Flavor

While the slow and gentle cooking method of the crock pot is a major factor in the mouthwatering outcome, there are a few other elements that will elevate your dish to new heights.

First and foremost, the star of the show is the juicy and tender pork. Choosing the right cut of meat is crucial for achieving the perfect balance of flavors. Opt for boneless pork butt, fresh ham or shoulder.

These cuts tend to have a good amount of marbling; which translates to succulent and flavorful meat. Additionally, be sure to trim any excess fat, as this will prevent the dish from becoming overly greasy.

Another key ingredient in this recipe is the apple cider. This flavorful liquid not only infuses the pork with a subtle sweetness, but it also adds a depth of flavor that is truly remarkable.

The natural sugars in the apple cider caramelize during the long cooking process, creating a rich and savory sauce that coats the meat.

To enhance the flavor profile further, a combination of aromatic spices and herbs is essential. Traditional fall spices like sage brings a subtle earthiness to the dish.

These fragrant ingredients not only season the pork but also infuse the surrounding liquid, resulting in a tantalizing aroma that will fill your kitchen.

  • Crock Pot
  • Measuring Cups and Spoon Set
  • Small Mixing Bowl
  • Whisk
  • Cutting Board

Ingredients Needed

Boneless Pork Shoulder: Often called pork butt or Boston butt, this cut is perfect for slow cooking as it contains a lot of marbling that helps keep the meat juicy.

Kosher Salt

Black Pepper

Applesauce: You can use store bought or homemade applesauce in this recipe.

How do you make Apple Cider Pork

Add the pork fat side up to the crock pot; then season with salt and pepper. Next, combine the apple cider, applesauce, brown sugar sage and flour in a bowl; then whisk until smooth.

Pour the liquid on top of the pork, cover the crock pot; then cook on high for 6-7 hours or low for 8-9 hours. The pork is done when you can easily slide a fork in and out of the meat.

Remove the pork from the crock pot and place on a cutting board. Cut the pork into ½-inch thick slices and place on a serving platter. Drizzle some of the sauce on top of the meat; then add the remaining sauce to a gravy boat.

Pairing Suggestions

One classic pairing option for this succulent pork dish are sweet potatoes. The natural sweetness and creamy texture of roasted sweet potatoes or sweet potato casserole complement the rich flavors of the apple cider pork, creating a harmonious balance on your plate.

If you're looking to add a burst of freshness to your meal, consider serving the apple cider pork alongside a crisp green salad. The vibrant, leafy greens provide a refreshing and light element that beautifully cuts through the richness of the dish. Our Spinach Salad with Apples and Pecans would be the perfect choice!

For those seeking a heartier accompaniment, consider pairing the apple cider pork with buttery mashed potatoes. The smooth and velvety nature of the mashed potatoes melds effortlessly with the tender pork, creating a comforting and satisfying combination.

Vegetable side dishes are important too. Try our Maple Roasted Baby Carrots or Sea Salt Roasted Green Beans.

Whatever pairing you choose, remember to consider the overall balance of flavors, textures, and colors on your plate. By carefully selecting complementary ingredients, you can create a symphony of flavors that will leave you craving more.
