Though bbq brisket is a popular item during the Summer months in some states, it wasn't something we thought of making here in NJ unless it was for a holiday during the winter months. Not your everyday, average bbq menu item.

I don't recall ever trying a smoked bbq brisket, but wanted to try my oven version in the oven and came up with a simple recipe with a ton of flavor. This Baked BBQ Beef Brisket was amazing, loaded with that smokey bbq flavor and so tender.

You will need some time to cook this recipe as brisket is a tough piece of meat and needs to cook for several hours in order to reach the tender stage. Trust me, it's well worth it!

Suggested Equipment

  • Mixing Bowl
  • Roasting Pan
  • Aluminum Foil
  • Cutting Board
  • Chef Knife
  • Serving Platter

Ingredients Needed

To make this recipe you're going to need the following ingredients:

Flat Cut Beef Brisket

Honey BBQ Sauce: We like the flavor of honey bbq sauce, but you can substitute your favorite.

Light Brown Sugar

Garlic Powder

Kosher Salt

Black Pepper

Coca Cola: I added some soda to the bottom of the pan while it was cooking to help keep the meat moist and form a nice bbq sauce gravy once the meat was done.

How do you make BBQ Beef Brisket?

Start by preheating the oven to 350 degrees F. Combine the bbq sauce, brown sugar, garlic powder, salt and pepper in a bowl; then coat both sides of the brisket and place in a roasting pan.

Add half of the cola to the bottom of the pan; then cover the pan with aluminum foil. Place the pan in the oven and cook for 1 hour covered.

Remove the foil after an hour and cook for another 2 ½-3 hours, adding the remaining cola to the bottom of the pan halfway through.

The brisket is done when you insert the tip of a sharp knife into the meat and there is no resistance. Remove from the oven and transfer the meat to a cutting board.

Slice the meat across the grain and place on serving platter; then top with the pan drippings.
