Guinness BBQ Baked Chicken Wings made with Guinness stout is the base for this delicious bbq sauce. It adds a ton of flavor to these healthier chicken wings.
Whether you're looking for a new chicken wing recipe to incorporate into your weekly dinner routine or just want a new appetizer to dig into while watching your favorite sports team this month, these Guinness BBQ Baked Chicken Wings will be a definite favorite.
St. Patrick's Day is just around the corner so it's really easy to find Irish beer, like Extra Stout Guinness Beer. I don't like beer, but I do like the flavor when it's added to some recipes like this one for short ribs or corned beef.
I used to be a heavy smoker back in my early 20's and the more beer I drank, the more cigarettes I wanted to smoke. When I finally decided to quit for good and got hypnotized, I haven't had a cigarette in 22 years.
However, when I was hypnotized, I must have associated beer with the cigarettes because I can't STAND the taste of beer at all. Odd how that happens right?
Like I said earlier, I like cooking with beer so when I wanted to make a new recipe that could be enjoyed either for St. Patrick's Day or March Madness, wings seemed like the perfect combination.
Is there such a thing as a healthy chicken wing?
Though my family loves chicken wings, I wanted to make them a bit healthier and came up with these Guinness BBQ Baked Chicken Wings. Chicken wings do tend to be high in calories because of the skin.
However, by baking them instead of frying you do cut back on those added fat and calorie counts.
Par bake the Chicken Wings
First, I par baked the chicken wings on an older sheet pan in the oven for about 30 minutes in a 425°F oven.
Make the Guinness BBQ Sauce
While the chicken was cooking, I made the Guinness BBQ Sauce that I was going to baste the wings. Combine Extra Stout Guinness Beer, ketchup, garlic powder, Irish mustard and brown sugar and add them to a small saucepan.
Cook over medium high heat on top of the stove and for about 10-15 minutes; mixing until it became thick. Once thickened, I removed the sauce from the heat and allowed to cool until the wings were ready for basting.
You can make this bbq sauce up to two days ahead of time and keep it covered tightly in the refrigerator to save time as well.
Cook the Guinness BBQ Chicken Wings
Baste the chicken wings with the Guinness BBQ Sauce and bake the chicken for another 30 minutes until the chicken is cooked through.
For this recipe, I used 3 pounds of chicken wings; which is about 18 wing segments. My family got home just as these were coming out of the oven and they devoured them; they were SO good!
They are a little sticky so don't forget to keep extra napkins on hand. 🙂 ~Enjoy!
