Boneless chicken breasts lightly sautéed; then simmered in a sauce made with tangerines, honey, orange juice, chicken broth and dill.
When I first made this recipe for Honey Tangerine Chicken back in 2012, I used honey tangerines. However, they are hard to find; especially when not in season.
So I decided to update the recipe using easier to find ingredients. After all, I'm all about making quick, family friendly recipes using easy to find ingredients! Plus the original picture made this recipe unappealing.
What is a tangerine?
A tangerine is a citrus fruit; similar to that of an orange with a deep, reddish-orange skin. They are usually smaller than oranges, have a thinner skin; which makes them easier to peel and tend to be sweeter.
A similar citrus fruit would be a clementine or "cuties"; which my kids love!
Personally, I'm not a huge fan of orange-flavored food; however, this Honey Tangerine Chicken was deliciously mild with a slight tang.

How do you make Honey Tangerine Chicken?
Heat the oil in a large pot or Dutch oven over medium high heat; then add the diced chicken and cook until no longer pink; approximately 5-7 minutes.
In a small bowl, combine the chicken broth, orange juice, honey, dill, salt and pepper; then whisk until smooth. Reduce the heat to low, add the flour to the chicken and stir to coat the pieces.
Next, add the liquid mixture and the diced tangerines and simmer for 5-7 minutes until the sauce starts to thicken slightly.
This chicken in a honey tangerine sauce serves four for a quick and easy weeknight family meal. Serve on top of egg noodles or rice and with your favorite vegetable.
