These Asian style meatballs made with lean ground beef in a honey, sesame soy sauce are delicious and great for entertaining.
Chinese New Year falls on February 1st, so I'm sharing a fun new recipe for these Asian Meatballs. They're small and bite sized so they make a tasty appetizer, kid friendly meal or game day snack.
Years ago my aunt went to a Chinese cooking class and introduced our family to Asian Chicken Wings. They're AMAZING and a hit at many family gatherings.
The sauce is simple to make so I've used it many times as a base; then added ingredients to it to change it up a bit as well. Some of our favorite Asian style recipes are Pork Fried Rice, Ginger Soy Marinated Strip Steaks and Grilled General Tso Chicken Strips.
These meatballs were delicious and made the perfect Sunday afternoon snack while watching a wintery day movie marathon. This recipe makes 24 party size meatballs and can be served as is or over rice and a vegetable for dinner.

How do you make Asian Meatballs?
Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F; then line a baking sheet with a silpat mat or parchment paper. In a mixing bowl, combine the ground beef, sesame oil, egg, breadcrumbs, ginger, garlic powder and scallions.
Mix well with clean hands; then form the meatballs and place on the baking sheet. I opted for party size meatballs and used 1 tablespoon of the mixture for each meatball; which yielded 24 meatballs.
Place the baking sheet in the oven and cook for 10 minutes until brown. While the meatballs are cooking, you can make the sauce.
Add the sesame oil, soy sauce, honey, ketchup, garlic powder and pepper to a 3-quart Dutch oven or large pot.
Whisk together; then cook over high heat until it comes to a boil. Reduce heat to medium and cook another 5-7 minutes until the meatballs are done. Combine the cornstarch and cold water and mix until smooth; then add to the sauce and stir until slightly thickened.
Add the cooked meatballs to the sauce, toss to coat; then serve. You can add extra scallions or sesame seeds as an optional garnish.
Can you cook Asian Meatballs in the crock pot?
I don't recommend making the sauce or cooking the meatballs in the crock pot.
However, once the sauce and meatballs are baked, you can add them to a crock pot, mix together; then keep the temperature on warm to keep them hot while transporting or serving.
