Summer and grilling go hand in hand. Whether you're grilling meat, poultry or seafood, these bbq sauces, marinades and brines are a delicious way to add some flavor.
BBQ sauces, marinades and brines are simple to make at home and add a ton of flavor to any recipe.
They're also versatile and many can be used interchangeably with whatever protein you're making.
What are the Differences?
BBQ Sauces, Marinades and Brines are three different methods used to help add extra moisture to protein when grilling. Here are the differences between all three:
BBQ Sauce: A thick liquid you add while cooking by basting the food or adding it on top once fully cooked.
Marinade: A liquid solution that is combined; usually with some type of oil similar to a vinaigrette in which you soak the food before cooking. Most marinades have a minimum of 2 hours in order for the food to gain the flavor. However, check each recipe as some foods can be marinated longer.
Brine: A liquid solution containing salt dissolved in water; that is seasoned with herbs and spices to add flavor. The meat absorbs the liquid and salt; which leads to juicier food. Typically, you should only brine your protein 1 hour per pound so as not to over-brine
